Wrapping up Unit 4

P.1
Over the past few weeks, P.1 students have been working on a number of different activities surrounding the topic of their families. We started by making family trees, progressed to conversation about family members, and then finally describing family members. Now, students are finishing up their family scrapbooks which they will present shortly. Thank you to all the parents for sending in photos for their books. The students have been enjoying this project very much. Please see the More Pictures page for photos of student-made books from the previous unit.

P.2
P.2 students have been engaging in quite a bit of more complex language structures and putting that to use in conversation. Shifting from personal conversation (I, you) to conversation about others (he, she) can be challenging, especially when it comes to grammar. Students have had the chance to practice a series of question and answer dialogues - both about themselves and about others - by playing bingo, taking surveys, and singing songs, of course. We are proud of the growing confidence of P.2 students and are excited by the growing number of students volunteering to ask and answer questions on an individual basis. Finally, we have begun studying numbers up to 100 and incorporating math activities into these lessons. Students recently engaged in short math competitions at the start of class as well as number-word scavenger hunts. Please see the More Pictures page for photos of house projects from the previous unit.

Projects Galore!

In both P.1 and P.2, students have been wrapping up Unit 3 by creating projects in groups.

In P.1, students listened to a story called "School" which talks about the different things that students see at school. In groups, students made their own books in which each student was responsible for writing and illustrating one page of the book and the group shared in making a cover page. The books were put together and then each group read their book aloud to their friends.

In P.2, students worked in small groups using large pieces of paper to create illustrations of the different rooms in the house and a variety of objects in each room. Afterwards, students in each group chose one room and wrote a description of that room, focusing on the location of objects relative to other objects. These descriptions were then attached to the big paper and each group presented their house to the rest of the class. Each student read aloud his or her room description.
