Field Trip 2010

Friday, November 5th was a day of fun-filled learning and new activities for both P.1 and P.2 students. We had perfect weather for the activities at Tweechol Gardens and students seemed to enjoy themselves. We were very pleased to have some foreign exchange students from Payap University help out and interact with our students. We are very proud of our students for feeling comfortable and confident in interacting with the native English speaking university students and even asking them questions while of course following their instructions. We were also lucky to have some PRC Gifted English students from upper mattayom help out as well as the other two native English teachers from level 1. Students were busy with English activities throughout the morning, had lunch and some free time at the playground, boarded buses for tours of the park, and finished off the afternoon with slideshows, presentations, and reading/writing exercises in their activity books. Here are some of the pictures from the day.

The End of the Term

The final days of the semester are upon us and we are glad that FEP students are in good health. By the end of next week, students will have finished all their tests and grades will be calculated. Parents will also be receiving FEP progress reports that show students' achievement according to each indicator, as well as some additional assessment that we think is very important. Please look over these and discuss them with your child, especially areas in which the student may be struggline. Keep in mind not all indicators have been evaluated yet.

The final tests are about to begin, so hopefully you have some time to review with your child. Good luck and have an enjoyable break from school. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything with us, please send us an e-mail: level1fep@gmail.com.

Health Issues and The Final Unit

Dear Parents,
Unfortunately, there are many types of flus and fevers going around and many students have been sick. We hope that everyone feels better soon and can be healthy for the end of the term. If your child has been sick and absent from school, especially for many days, please help review and catch up on schoolwork at home when your child is feeling better.

P.1 - We have finished covering all the material in Let's Go Units 1-4. Parents, please practice and help students complete workbook pages from those units (Pages 2-37).
P.2 - We have finished covering all the material in Let's Go Units 1-3 and are will be studying Unit 4 over the next 2 weeks.

We have started our final unit (Unit 5) and the word lists have been added. Please follow the link to find the updated word lists (P.1 Word Lists and P.2 Word Lists). Thank you for help and don't forget to start reviewing for the final exams in just a few short weeks!

Wrapping up Unit 4

P.1
Over the past few weeks, P.1 students have been working on a number of different activities surrounding the topic of their families. We started by making family trees, progressed to conversation about family members, and then finally describing family members. Now, students are finishing up their family scrapbooks which they will present shortly. Thank you to all the parents for sending in photos for their books. The students have been enjoying this project very much. Please see the More Pictures page for photos of student-made books from the previous unit.

P.2
P.2 students have been engaging in quite a bit of more complex language structures and putting that to use in conversation. Shifting from personal conversation (I, you) to conversation about others (he, she) can be challenging, especially when it comes to grammar. Students have had the chance to practice a series of question and answer dialogues - both about themselves and about others - by playing bingo, taking surveys, and singing songs, of course. We are proud of the growing confidence of P.2 students and are excited by the growing number of students volunteering to ask and answer questions on an individual basis. Finally, we have begun studying numbers up to 100 and incorporating math activities into these lessons. Students recently engaged in short math competitions at the start of class as well as number-word scavenger hunts. Please see the More Pictures page for photos of house projects from the previous unit.

Updated Word Lists

Word lists have now been updated to include Units 1, 2, and 3. Unit 4 is also posted, which students will begin next week. Click on the links to the right to have a look.

Look below for a recap of Unit 3 and pictures of English Camp. Thank you for your comments and e-mails. Feel free to continue to e-mail us with questions: level1fep@gmail.com.

Projects Galore!

In both P.1 and P.2, students have been wrapping up Unit 3 by creating projects in groups.

In P.1, students listened to a story called "School" which talks about the different things that students see at school. In groups, students made their own books in which each student was responsible for writing and illustrating one page of the book and the group shared in making a cover page. The books were put together and then each group read their book aloud to their friends.

In P.2, students worked in small groups using large pieces of paper to create illustrations of the different rooms in the house and a variety of objects in each room. Afterwards, students in each group chose one room and wrote a description of that room, focusing on the location of objects relative to other objects. These descriptions were then attached to the big paper and each group presented their house to the rest of the class. Each student read aloud his or her room description.

English Camp

On Saturday, July 10, P.1 and P.2 FEP students were very active and learning English at the same time. Over the course of the morning, they participated in four different stations: Vocabulary Relay Races, Phonics Songs + Words Scavenger Hunts, Cut and Paste stories about the Environment, and an Arts and Crafts Project. Students were involved in singing, running, spelling, writing, reading, speaking, drawing, listening, cutting, pasting, and then finally, eating. They seemed to have quite a fun time and we are proud of their achievements.

We would like to thank all of the parents for bringing your children in to school on a Saturday to participate in these activities. We would also like to thank the foreign teachers and Upper Mattayom Gifted English students who helped make this English camp possible. Each station was run by a foreign teacher and each group of students was guided by a group of Gifted English students.

Getting Around the Website

Welcome to the new website. News, pictures, links, and information is provided for both grades P.1 and P.2. Currently, we have a few links to websites of the resources that we use. If you click those links, they will take you directly to those pages. For example, click Let's Go and you will go to the website with information and activities about the textbook that we use.

If you look to the right under "Information," you can find links to additional pages such as word lists. We have begun Unit 3, so select the appropriate grade and a page will open listing all the vocabulary and sentence patterns being taught in this unit. To get back to the main page, click "Home" or use the back arrow.

Finally, if you have comments or questions, you can click the word "comments" at the bottom of each post. We will read these and respond accordingly. Please feel free to comment and ask questions. Alternatively, you can also e-mail us: level1fep@gmail.com.
